Born on the illustrious Caribbean Island of St Kitts and Nevis, Sasha Herbert, better known as Sasha, The Artist, is a 26-year-old independent visual artist who continues to make an indelible mark on the landscape of this pristine island. Art has always been a part of Sasha’s life; from designing popsicle stick houses as a youth during the summers to creating realistic acrylic portraits inspired by her island’s vibrant Kitti-Nevi culture; Sasha continues to engrave her name into the hearts and minds of our people.
Sasha began her formal years at the Wings of Love Pre- School, before being admitted to the Dr. William Connor Primary School. She later transitioned to the acclaimed Basseterre High School then unto the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College where she completed her tertiary education, pursuing an Associate’s degree in General Studies with a focus in Art & Design. Sasha excelled, receiving notable recognition for “Most Outstanding Performance” in CAPE Visual Arts in 2013 & 2014. Her exceptional work of art that is still seen today, hanging on the wall of the College’s campus library, a mural titled ‘His Vision.’ However, it was after Sasha’s recognition as one of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Most Remarkable Teens in 2012 that she quickly began her career as an artist.
Sasha’s accolades continued when she was selected to represent St. Kitts & Nevis at Carifesta XIV in Trinidad and Tobago at their Across Borders Art Exhibition and most recently displayed her work for the St. Kitts-Nevis High Commission Virtual Art Exhibition in 2020. Although ecstatic about her accomplishments to date, she believes that her name was cemented among our locals when she first introduced the much-admired ‘Paint and Sip with Sasha, The Artist’, in 2017. Sasha has been featured as one of St. Kitts’ top 5 Island Highlights in British Airways Executive Club E-Zine; A feature that landed her among the OECS 30 and under entrepreneurs in the region.
Excitingly, in 2020, Sasha expanded her craft into the academic realm and launched Sasha The Artist Art Academy; an after-school art program that aids in exposing students ages 6-12 years old to various technical art skills. Amid much uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sasha launched painting kits to encourage a safe and creative at-home entertainment experience for both children and adults that was received by many.
Let’s not forget, her slogan reigned supreme when she was dubbed the winner of the Sugar Mas 49 slogan competition. Shortly after which, she launched her first art-activity book inspired by our beloved carnival titled “The Art of Carnival”.
Reintroducing herself in a new capacity, Sasha C Herbert is your ambassador number one in this year’s National Queen Pageant; a platform she intends to utilize to promote visual expression while nurturing new experiences for the artist within.
